2008 WSOP Event #1: $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em

The 2008 World Series of Poker started with a new $10,000 pot-limit hold'em event that attracted 352 of the world's best players to the felt. Not surprisingly, the final table was loaded with familiar names and faces.
Phil Laak and Patrik Antonius, both considered among the best poker players never to have won a WSOP bracelet, made a deep run but fizzled out in 9th and 7th, respectively.
WPT commentator Mike Sexton, Kathy Liebert, and Andy Bloch all came close to tasting WSOP gold. However, they were no match for Canadian Nenad Medic who reigned supreme in the end. For emerging through one of the toughest fields in WSOP history, Medic received $794,000. This was not his largest tournament win. In 2006, he won the World Poker Finals for $1.7 million.
Bloch won $488,000 for second. Kathy Liebert's impressive third place finish added $306,000 to her bankroll. Sexton won $248,000 for fourth.
